Pets can play a meaningful role in recovery. Caring for an animal provides structure and routine, which are important in early sobriety. Feeding, walking, and spending time with a pet give patients a sense of purpose and responsibility. Many patients find that the presence of a familiar companion helps reduce stress and loneliness during a period of major change, making it easier to settle into treatment and stay engaged.

Emotional Comfort During Treatment

The emotional support pets provide can be especially valuable during difficult moments. Withdrawal, therapy sessions, and the challenges of facing addiction can bring up strong emotions. Pet Requirements

Pets at Highwater Detox are considered on a case-by-case basis. Our admissions team will ask about your animal during the first call and explain the requirements before arrival. Service animals are also considered on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to create an environment that works for patients, their animals, and everyone else in our care.

Treatment in Our Pet-Friendly Program

Choosing pet-friendly rehab does not change the quality or intensity of treatment. Patients receive the same individualized medical and clinical care as everyone at Highwater Detox. Treatment typically begins with medically supervised detox, which usually lasts 5 to 11 days, with 24/7 monitoring and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate. Patients can then continue into residential rehab programs of 7, 30, 60, or 90 days.

Therapy and Daily Routine

During residential treatment, patients take part in individual therapy, group therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and addiction counseling, all guided by an individualized treatment plan. The skills patients build in therapy, such as managing stress, regulating emotions, and preventing relapse, are supported by the daily routines that caring for a pet naturally provides.

Amenities and Holistic Care

Our holistic approach to treatment also includes yoga classes, massage therapy, spa procedures, a fitness studio, and outdoor excursions and activities. Freshly prepared gourmet meals accommodate all dietary restrictions, and patients can choose an individualized or shared room. On a case-by-case basis, cell phones, computers, and internet access are allowed.

Combining Pet-Friendly Rehab With Other Programs

Pet-friendly rehab is available alongside our other programs. Patients with a co-occurring mental health disorder receive integrated dual diagnosis care, and couples who share a pet can combine pet-friendly rehab with our couples rehab program. As a co-ed facility, Highwater Detox welcomes both men and women.
